Rules & Regulations

The New York Jewish Music Festival (NYJMF) is open to musicians and dancers of all nationalities.

AGE
Four and above

REPERTOIRE
Participants are encouraged to select repertoire with a Jewish theme, Jewish dance, music by Jewish composers/lyricists/songwriters, etc. See Wikipedia on Jewish MusicWikipedia on Jewish Classical Composers or Jinfo on Jewish Songwriters and Composers for suggestions.

The repertoire should include 1 composition per entry (multiple entries are allowed). It must be performed from memory and should not not exceed 6 minutes. Please note that once the repertoire is presented during the Audition it cannot be changed and must be performed during the festival, if selected.

HOW TO ENTER
1. Please complete an Application Form and submit a nonrefundable registration fee payment by the deadline. Please note that multiple entries are allowed. However, each entry must be accompanied with a separate application form and payment submitted by the deadline.

2. After your application is processed, you will receive a time slot with your appointment time and any other pertinent information for the Audition. If participating in the Audition online by providing a link to a video recording in the Application form you will not receive a time slot and instead will be notified if you were selected after the live Audition results are in.

Audition online: If you are unable to appear in person for the Audition, you must upload the video recording to YouTube and provide a link to this recording in the Application Form. Please note that studio recording or pitch correction is NOT allowed. The video recording cannot be older than two month prior to submission of the Application. The application, along with a link to a video recording, and registration fee must be received by the deadline.

RESULTS OF THE AUDITION
You will be notified about the results of the Audition via email. So, please ensure that your email address is accurate in the Application Form

ACCOMPANIMENT & EQUIPMENT
Accompanist

We do not provide an accompanist. Therefore, please make your own arrangements if you require one. If you are having trouble finding an accompanist please let us know in advance and we will try to recommend one to you, if possible.

Piano
Piano will be provided during the Audition and the festival.

Pre-recorded musical accompaniment
If you require CD playback equipment it will be provided during the audition and the festival, but you must bring a CD with a musical accompaniment to the Audition. If you are participating in the Audition online please contact us for instructions on how to submit the music electronically.

Note: All pre-recorded musical accompaniment must be submitted on a CD and be clearly labeled with the name of the performer(s) and the title of the musical selection. Please do not include anything else on a CD aside from your audition selection and test it prior to the audition to ensure quality playback. Please note that a CD will not be returned after the Audition as it will be used for playback during the festival, if selected.

AWARDS
Here is a list of current awards and prizes. There might be other special awards and prizes at the discretion of the NYJMF.

- Medal and Certificate of Excellence

- Cash prize of $150

- Häagen-Dazs ice cream sundae party for 20-25 people ($109.99 value). This includes everything you need: 10 pints of our yummy, all natural ice cream (your choice of up to 4 flavors), all the toppings (hot fudge, caramel, whipped cream, sprinkles, peanuts, cookie crunch and cherries), and even the cups, spoons, napkins, scoopers and a tablecloth.

Note: Participants must be present during the Awards Ceremony at the conclusion of the festival in order to receive the awards. NO certificates, prizes or other awards will be sent by mail.

PHOTO/VIDEO
Please note that photography and videotaping is prohibited during the NYJMF. However, you might be able to order a photo/video of the performance from NYJMF. Please, see Photo/Video section for more information.

PUBLICITY
By submitting an Application Form, each participant / parent / legal guardian authorizes the use of participant’s name, photo, audio and/or video recording for the publicity and promotional purposes related to the festival.

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
NYJMF is not responsible for and shall not be held liable for (a) lost, late, delayed, damaged, incomplete, illegible, unintelligible, or misdirected entries; (b) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; (c) failed, incomplete, partial, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions; (d) any condition caused by events beyond the control of the NYJMF that may cause the festival to be disrupted; (e) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the festival; (f) any claims, suits, actions, liabilities, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind in connection with the festival or resulting from acceptance, possession, or use of any prize/award.

By submitting an Application Form for participation in the NYJFM, applicant (18 years or older) or school representative / parent / legal guardian (if such applicant is a minor) agrees to accept these rules and be bound by the decisions of NYJMF, its judges, and staff which are final and binding in all matters.
